Sandstone: Behind the Name
The name Sandstone Goods carries more than just a love for timeless, earthy textures—it’s also a quiet tribute to a piece of Kern County history.
In the early 1900s, the Sandstone Brick Company played a foundational role (literally and figuratively) in shaping the built environment of Bakersfield and surrounding areas. Located just west of town near what is now Truxtun Avenue, the company was known for its high-quality, hand-pressed bricks made from local sandstone deposits. These bricks helped construct homes, schools, civic buildings, and even iconic facades that still dot our city’s landscape today. Though the original company is long gone, its impact remains etched into the bones of Bakersfield.
We chose the name Sandstone Goods as a subtle nod to this legacy—not to replicate it, but to reimagine it for a new kind of foundation: one that builds community, connection, and creativity through thoughtfully curated home and lifestyle products.
Where the brick company once provided the structural materials for a growing city, we now offer the meaningful, handcrafted goods that help people make their houses feel like home. Our roots are still local, but our reach is global. We source from talented makers throughout California, across the U.S., and around the world with an eye for modern lines, organic forms, and earthy, layered tones.
After more than two decades in corporate retail, I launched Sandstone Goods from a desire for something more personal—something that prioritizes quality, values sustainability, and champions small makers and local artisans. What started as a dream has grown into a community-driven space, with support from family, friends, and the incredible people who walk through our doors and visit us online.
We’re proud to be based in Bakersfield, and honored to be part of its next chapter—one where creativity, diversity, and conscious living take center stage.
Thanks for being here. We hope you love what you discover.
